There are situations when you may want to have your computer turned off or put into standby automatically. For example, when you are falling asleep while listening to your favorite song or you are watching a late night movie and you fall asleep with the computer turned on. Or maybe you are downloading a file at night and you want your computer to automatically shut down when the download is over. For all these situations, it is not enough to have just Windows installed. The operating system has an option for putting the computer into standby after a certain amount of time, but this feature doesn't always work as it should.

A better idea would be to use Timed Shutdown, a software specially designed for turning off the computer after a certain amount of time or at a specific hour. This is a Windows application that has no trouble running in all the Windows versions. The interface seems minimalist and offers just what the user needs, that is, just the options for turning off the computer after a specific time or at a certain hour. The program can be set to turn off, restart or put the PC into standby mode.

After the settings have been configured, the program is automatically minimized into the system tray and when clicked on it, it will clearly show the user how much time is left until the system will be turned off. The program can be upgraded to a more complete version, which can automatically turn off the computer using various rules, for example, when the CPU is not used. Still, the standard version is good enough for most users.

Pros:
It can automatically turn off or restart the computer after a certain amount of time or at a specific hour. Besides that, the interface is graphical and offers just the options required by the user. Furthermore, the amount of time left until the system shuts down is clearly displayed when clicking on the program's icon in the system tray. What's more, the standard version can be upgraded to the advanced one directly from the interface.

Cons:
The standard version seems too simple compared to the upgraded one.
